JOB PURPOSE

The Fireman is responsible for the constant fire surveillance of the ship. He/she co-operates with the Safety Officer for the maintenance and cleanliness of the firefighting equipment.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Responsible for the efficient, safe, and secure supervision of all area of the ship in order to prevent any possible fire hazard
  • Support the Safety Officer with his/her skills and abilities in all activities related to the maintenance of firefighting equipment and the structural fire fighting devices of the ship
  • By mutual agreement with the Safety Officer, the Fireman must be on board the ship at any time the Safety Officer is absent from the ship, minimum safe manning must be granted when the ship is in port
  • Perform all duties in accordance with acceptable standards avoiding any wastage of materials
  • Preparing all means of access on board (ladders, gangways etc.) respecting all injury prevention rules related to them

 

QUALIFICATIONS (skills, coypetencies, experience)

  • High School graduate
  • Fluent in English (both written and spoken). The ability to read, speak and write in another major European language is an advantage 
  • Proven successful experience of at least 2 years in a similar position at sea or at least 4 years as a sailor on a passenger ship or at least 2 years in a similar position ashore
  • Proven ability to work in a harmonious, productive team environment
  • Sufficient knowledge in Fire Fighting techniques and injury prevention
  • Sufficient knowledge in maintenance, technique and seamanship
  • Knowledge of International, National and Company regulations regarding safety on board
  •  

 

CERTIFICATIONS

  • School-leaving certificate
  • STCW Security Duties
  • STCW Crowd & Crisis Management and Human Behaviour
  • STCW95 Basic Safety Training (Advanced Fire Fighting, Personal Survival Techniques, Elementary First Aid, PSSR)
  • A recognised seafarer’s medical certification is required before starting to work onboard
